I don’t even know where to begin this morning. My anger levels are still through the roof (my fellow Raven loving co-workers are just fueling the fire). This was a game the birds HAD to win. This was a statement game-period. After containing the Steelers offense for nearly the entire game, the defense gave up a 12 play-89 yard drive that sealed the game and the AFC North title for Pittsburgh. I don’t know what I’m more angry about, the Ravens inability to finish big games or the absolute garbage call by referee Walt Coleman. When the Steelers started the final drive I sent my buddy a message that simply said “game over”. I got that deep, sick feeling that this was going to happen…again.
On one of the first series of the final drive, the defense rushed three. Three. After pummeling the Steelers offensive line all day, Rex Ryan was content to drop back and not bring it. Giving Big Ben time is asking for disaster. For some reason, the Ravens defense has as many holes as Sponge Bob when the game is on the line.
As far as the call is concerned, I’m not going to say if it was a TD or not. My problem is with the overturn. I’ve watched this play about 50 times now on replay and I go back and forth. That tells me one thing-IT IS NOT CONCLUSIVE. It should have been forth and inches-the way a game like this SHOULD be settled. Now the Ravens must win out to make the playoffs as a wild card.
Sorry this blog is all over the place but my brain hurts. Like the refs should, I’ll try and do better next time.

I agree that while in the replay the TD could have gone either way. That statement (which I initially heard from a Steelers fan) tells me that in was not incontrevertable evidence. But I figure the replay system must have been broken, based on that phantom third down conversion earlier in the game.
The sad fact is that in poor economic times the Steelers do well because the league collectivley (and most likely subconciously) favors them out of pity for their poor fan base. If S#:*sburgh doesn’t make it to the superbowl this year, I will be flabergasted. The pundits keep saying that “pittsburgh just keeps finding ways to win”, but all of those miracle comebacks I’ve seen this year have hinged on questionable calls from the refs.
